In the early 1920's Intentional Harvester Company (IHC) and others began to realize the potential for a simpler brand of tractor.
The industrial or utility tractor was born. These tractors became the base for a wide range of third party conversions form simple
block and tackle cranes to complex conversions like road scrapers or this rare tractor dumper.

Nichols & Shepard came out with its first steam engine tractor in about 1911, and kept building tractors into 1929 .
That year saw the merger of Hart-Parr Co., Nichols & Shepard Co., American Seeding Machine Co., and Oliver Chilled
Plow Works into one company named Oliver . Nichols & Shepard Tractors are as
rare as they are
big. To see one
is a treat to

Mechanical Problems detours the tractor parade. The steady stream of
hundreds of vintage tractors suddenly stopped
when a steam tractors front wheels broke off. Quick action by club members
to put the fire out assured no chance of a problem. Minutes later the parade
continued... but the broken giant wasn’t moving anywhere. |
